In June, the price of gas in the Baltic-Finnish region increased by 9 percent
In June, The Baltic-Finnish Gas Spot Index (BGSI), which captures changes in natural gas prices on the daily market, increased by 9% from 36.56 EUR/MWh to 39.78 EUR/MWh compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, the average monthly price differences between different market areas of the gas exchange decreased to 0.32 EUR/MWh. In Lithuania, the BGSI increased by 8% to 39.98 EUR/MWh, in the common Latvian-Estonian market area, BGSI rose by 10% to 39.66 EUR/MWh, and in Finland, the BGSI also grew by 10% to 39.74 EUR/MWh. Individual transaction prices in June ranged from 35.00 EUR/MWh to 54.35 EUR/MWh.
In June, a total of 427 GWh of natural gas was traded on the GET Baltic exchange, with the entire volume traded in the daily market. Cross-border (ICA) transactions accounted for a quarter (110 MWh) of the total volume traded in June. The largest volume of gas was purchased on the Lithuanian market area – 191 GWh (45% of the total volume), followed by Finland – 128 GWh (30% of the total volume) and the common Latvian-Estonian market area – 107 GWh (25% of the total volume).
In the second quarter of 2024, 6,647 transactions were concluded on the GET Baltic exchange, with a traded volume of 1.5 TWh of natural gas. In the monthly market, the traded volume for the second quarter of the year amounted to 25 GWh.
