A record monthly volume of 1.36 TWh traded on GET Baltic exchange

In February, GET Baltic exchange saw a record monthly trading volume of 1.36 TWh of natural gas, the largest volume traded for single month delivery in the history of the exchange. The record trading volume was achieved after more than 3.7 thousand trades. Most of the volume was traded on the daily market, while 32 GWh of natural gas was traded on the monthly market. Compared to January, the trading volume increased by 21% (1.15 TWh traded in January). Cross-border (ICA) transactions accounted for one fifth (295 GWh) of the total. Almost two-thirds of the total February volume – 881 GWh (63%) – were purchased on the Lithuanian market area, 348 GWh (25% of the total) on the common Latvia-Estonia market area, and 168 GWh (12% of the total) in Finland.

In February, the Baltic-Finnish Gas Spot Index (BGSI), which captures changes in natural gas prices on the daily market, was 54.75 EUR/MWh, up by 12% compared to January (48.92 EUR/MWh). In February, the BGSI monthly value on the Lithuanian market area increased by 12% to 55.45 EUR/MWh, while on the common Latvia-Estonia market area and in Finland it grew by 11%, with the monthly BGSI value reaching 53.44 EUR/MWh and54.09 EUR/MWh, respectively. The Baltic-Finnish Gas Monthly Index (BGMI), which captures changes in natural gas prices on the monthly market, stood at 50.77 EUR/MWh. Individual transaction prices in February ranged from 40.00 EUR/MWh to 77.00 EUR/MWh.
