Baltic-Finnish Gas Exchange Trading Report for August 2020 Has Been Announced

The surge in traded volume was captured on the last summer month

In August 2020, regional gas exchange GET Baltic traded volume amounted to 344 GWh of natural gas. Comparing with July 2020 (246 GWh) traded volume increased by 40 percent, while comparing year on year it increased event 4 times (August 2019 – 78 GWh). Since prices of individual transactions fluctuated between 4.74 EUR/MWh and 10.65 EUR/MWh, 1,321 transactions were concluded during August, all of them on a daily market. In the last month of the summer, trading on the gas exchange remained active in all market areas: 45% of gas were purchased in Lithuanian market area, 35% – in common Latvian-Estonian market area and 20% – in Finland. In total 45 participants actively submitted orders during August, 44 of them successfully concluded transactions.

Baltic-Finnish Gas Spot Index (BGSI) which captures daily market gas prices changes, value after fallen back for 7 consecutive months in August 2020 started to move up and climbed to 7.85 EUR/MWh (July 2020 – 6.61 EUR/MWh). Participants concluded transactions in Lithuanian market area paid the weighted average price of 7.34 EUR/MWh (↑10%), in Latvian-Estonian common market area – 7.87 EUR/MWh (↑29%), in Finnish market area – 8.86EUR/MWh (↑10%).
