Traded volumes in 2018 have been growing consistently through the all market areas of the Baltic Gas Exchange. 2018 for the Baltic Gas Exchange GET Baltic was the year of targeted activity after which the growth of annual traded volumes was recorded – during 2018 participants of the exchange concluded 3,122 transactions (2017 – 1.159), bought and sold 1.1 TWh of natural gas (2017 – 441 GWh). The number of active participants reached 27 (2017 – 16). Traded volumes comparing year on year increased 2.5 times ant the number of concluded transactions – 2.7 times. Traded volumes consistently increased in all the market areas of the Baltic Gas Exchange: on Lithuanian market area exchange participant bought 943 GWh, sold 972 GWh, on Latvian market area respectively – 109 GWh and 96 GWh, on Estonian – 32 GWh and 17 GWh. Trading activity and growth of traded volumes were ensured by consistent work with exchange participants and a successful launch of the market makers program which helped to maintain liquidity and continuous trading on the exchange.
During the last month of the year concluding 258 transactions (November 2017 – 206) 39 GWh of natural gas were traded (November 2018 – 30 GWh). 16 market participants actively participated in trading (November 2018 – 13).
Baltic Gas Spot Index (BGSI) which captures changes of natural gas prices in the Baltics, value in December 2018 was 25.75 EUR/MWh and compared to November 2018 (26.73 EUR/MWh) decreased by 4%. Exchange participants concluded transactions in Lithuanian market area paid the weighted average price of 25.75 EUR/MWh (↓4%), in Latvian market area – 25.40 EUR/MWh (↓3%), Estonian market area – 25.78 EUR/MWh (↓3%).
