In the middle of May the traded volume of this year exceeded 3 TWh of natural gas
In May 2020 by concluding 1,671 transactions, traded volume amounted to 429 GWh. During the first five months of this year, a total of 3.2 TWh of natural gas were traded on the gas exchange. Assessing the traded volume from the beginning of 2020, the amount traded in January-May exceeded the total traded volume of 2019 (2.9 TWh). The first five months trading volumes surpassed last year’s result in both daily (2019 – 2.4 TWh; Jan-May 2020 – 2.7 TWh) and monthly (2019 – 0.42 TWh, Jan-May 2020 – 0.53 TWh) markets. With the first monthly transaction of this year executed in January, trading in the long-term market is gaining a bit of momentum as transactions are concluded every month.
In May 2020 downward trend of natural gas prices is captured on GET Baltic for the fifth month in a row. The average price in a daily market settled at the lowest average price this year – 8.36 EUR/MWh. As individual transactions prices fluctuated between 5.74 EUR/MWh and 11.71 EUR/MWh, the lowest transaction price in the history of GET Baltic was recorded: the transaction was concluded in the common Latvian-Estonian market area for 5.74 EUR/MWh. In total 44 participants actively submitted orders during May and 43 of them successfully concluded transactions.
Baltic-Finnish Gas Spot Index (BGSI) which captures daily market gas prices changes, value in May 2020 was 8.36 EUR/MWh (April 2020 – 10.26 EUR/MWh). Participants concluded transactions in Lithuanian market area paid the weighted average price of 8.36 EUR/MWh (↓14%), in Latvian-Estonian common market area – 7.66 EUR/MWh (↓21%), in Finnish market area – 8.56 EUR/MWh (↓24%). Baltic-Finnish Gas Monthly Index (BGMI), which captures monthly market gas prices changes, value in May 2020 was 10.25 EUR/MWh.
