On the GET Baltic natural gas exchange operating in the Baltic States and Finland, the average price of gas in July was 37.84 EUR per megawatt-hour (EUR/MWh). This is 5% lower than in June (39.78 EUR/MWh) and 3% higher than in July 2023, when the average gas price in the region was 36.81 EUR/MWh.
For the first time since March this year, the gas price on the GET Baltic exchange has changed its trajectory and moved downwards. The price decreased on all market areas: on the Lithuanian market area, gas was 3% cheaper at an average price of 38.69 EUR/MWh, on the Latvian-Estonian common market area, the price decreased by 5% to 37.30 EUR/MWh, and on the Finnish market area by 7% to 36.95 EUR/MWh.
Individual transaction prices in July ranged between 32 and 43 EUR/MWh.
In July, 2,363 transactions were concluded on the GET Baltic exchange, resulting in 500 GWh of natural gas traded. The vast majority of the gas (475 GWh) was traded on the daily market and the rest on the monthly market. Most of the gas in July was purchased on the Lithuanian market area – 204 GWh (40% of the total), on the Latvian-Estonian common market area – 175 GWh (35%) and on the Finnish market area – 120 GWh (24%).
