In September, the average price of gas on the GET Baltic gas exchange, operating in the Baltic States and Finland, was 40.37 euros per megawatt-hour (EUR/MWh), which is 5% lower than in August (42.45 EUR/MWh). Compared to last year, the September price decreased by 4%, as in September 2023, the average gas price in the region was 42.07 EUR/MWh.

“In September, a decrease in gas demand was observed across Europe. Naturally, lower demand in the market lead to reduced transaction prices. Similar trends were also seen in our region,” says Giedrė Kurmė, CEO of GET Baltic Exchange.

This September, gas prices declined across all market areas: in Lithuania, gas was 6% cheaper, averaging 40.99 EUR/MWh. In the Latvia-Estonia common market area, the price was 39.76 EUR/MWh, and in Finland, 40.01 EUR/MWh. Individual transaction prices in September ranged from 37 to 51.35 EUR/MWh.

In September, 2,149 transactions were made on the GET Baltic exchange, trading a total of 434 GWh of natural gas, all of which was traded on the daily market. The majority of the gas was purchased in the Lithuanian market area, accounting for 194 GWh (45%), in the Latvia-Estonia common market area it was 157 GWh (36%), while in Finland 82 GWh of natural gas were purchased(19%).
